Things To Do in The Local Area
|
|
There is a wealth of things to do and
places to see in Torbay, and Torquay
is ideally situated for reaching all
of them.
The Westbrook is ideal for walking to the
Riviera Conference and Leisure Centre,
Torre Abbey, Hi-Flyer Balloon,
promenade and beach, Theatre, harbour and town centre.
The Living Coasts is a great attraction in the Harbour
area where you can ' walk with penguins'.
Since opening in 2004 the Living Coasts have
added each year to it’s visitor pleasure and
the new mangrove area and improved children’s
facilities make this an ideal day out –
don’t miss a visit to the seal family!
From the Harbour there are many boat trips – you can just cross the Bay to Paignton
or Brixham, or go round the coast to Dartmouth.
There are day cruises, evening cruises,
fishing trips, the list is endless.

| Kent's Cavern |
|
On the way up to Babbacombe you can 'go
underground' at Kent's Cavern. The guides are very well
informed and make the tour interesting and fun. Kent's is part of our Unesco Geopark.
|
Bygones Museum will please young and old, with it’s mixture of
old Victorian streets, model railway, doll’s house collection,
and much more, and it looks so small from the front!!
Babbacombe Model Village has to be one of the best in the
country and is well worth a visit whether young or old.
Follow up your daytime visit with a free invite to go
again at dusk and see the village illuminated.
Paignton Zoo, although a little further, is not
to be missed. The Conservation Trust who own it
have made in into a fabulous place for the animals
and the visitors. See the Tiger cubs, who were born
last year, the new Crocodile House, Lemur Wood and maybe return in the evening for the Badger Watch.

That is just a small sample of the places to visit on
the doorstep – there are, of course, many gardens,
historical houses, theme parks, museums in the area. Further afield you can go to Teignmouth, Dawlish,
Dartmouth, Plymouth, Exeter and some even get as far as the Eden Project.
